TROWBRIDGE relinquished a commanding first half lead on Saturday as they were blown away by Oakmedians at a wind-swept Meyrick Park.

Tries from Ali Lund, Jack Hanham and Jerry Cox, who also kicked a conversion and a penalty, put Trowbridge 20-0 ahead after a superb opening 35 minutes.

But the hosts took advantage of some slack defending on the stroke of half-time to score a penalty and a converted try of their own.

It was roles reversed in the second period as the robust Oakmedians pack took control of the game.

Every time the visitors tried to progress down the field, the ball was thumped into touch by the Oakmedians number 10, whose wind-assisted kicks kept Trowbridge pinned deep in their own half.

Oakmedians scored 26 unanswered points in a dominant second half display which left Trowbridge skipper Nick Lawes shell-shocked.

Lawes said: "Oakmedians were on a roll and we couldn't do anything to stop them.

"I think they scored three tries in about five minutes. They just kicked to the corners, beat us up at the line-out and barged their way over.

"Our backs looked good again but we couldn't get enough ball to them. Things started off well, but it turned out to be one of those days."

The defeat leaves Trowbridge in sixth place in the Southern Counties table with two matches remaining, and Lawes insists there is still plenty to play for.

He said: "We should still finish mid-table, which would be our best ever in this league. We've got the Bath Combination Cup and the Dorset and Wilts Plate to look forward to, so hopefully we can finish the year with some silverware."
