THE star performer for St Helens Sutton A.C. at the National Cross-country Championships held at Sunderland was undoubtedly Dave Forrester who became the national champion by winning the under 17 years event by a clear 40 metres. Following his success Dave has been invited to represent his country in the World Junior Cross-country Championships to be held in Mombassa, Kenya.

The club's senior ladies were the first Merseyside team, led by Sarah Charnock in 72nd position, the other team counters were Gemma Connoly, 110th, Julia Eccleston, 179th, and Karen Jarvis, 194th. Also completing the course were Louise Hogg, 220th, Chris Dickinson, 264th and Sue Clague, 290th, 27 years after her last run at this level.

The under 15 yrs Boys team of Adam Fackey, 113rd, Jake Healy, 148th, John Ashcroft, 188th, and David Griffiths, 191st, finished in 22nd place with Danny Hughes, 220th,backing them up. The senior men also completed a team with Greg Williams leading the way in 181st place, Barry Graney, 294th, Ian Hayburn, 332nd, Robbie Marsh, 399th, Ray Vose, 412th, and Ian Pass they took 36th place.

In the under 15 yrs Girls race, Jemma Shaw finished 114th, Heather Drillingcourt, 179th, and Lauren Bradshaw, 199th.

The under 17 yrs Boys also had John Dumbell and Steve Clague competing finishing 143rd and 181st. John Appleton was 119th in the Junior Mens race and Louise Hayes 248th in the under 13 yrs Girls event.

Competing in the National & Northern Under 15 yrs Pentathlon Championships at Manchester's Sports City, Samantha Fraser set a new club indoor best of 2903 pts, to finish third in the Northern Championship and fourth in the National event. Sam also putt the shot 10.78 metres, cleared 1.56 m in the high jump, 4.59 m in the (long jump, and ran 9.90 secs for the 60m. hurdles and 2 min.51.25 secs. over 800m.
