Mrs J. Williams Jameston Jean Williams, of Meadow Road, Jameston, died at Withybush Hospital on February 17th after a short illness. She was 93.

Jean, the second daughter of Dr Robert Duncan and his wife Greta, was born and brought up in Altrincham. She married Bill in 1937.

During the war Bill flew Mosquitos in the RAF. Following his de-mob in 1947 the family (including children Pat and Peter) moved to Pembrokeshire. They farmed at West Orielton, near Hundleton, for eight happy years.

In 1956 the family moved to Angle where Bill and Jean ran The Globe Hotel. Sadly, Bill died in 1964, but Jean carried on running the business with great flair and energy until her retirement in 1977.

She spent the majority of her retirement in Jameston. She travelled extensively within the UK to visit her family and many friends, and also visited New Zealand on several occasions to see her two sisters who had emigrated. She travelled by cargo boat, liner and by air, and saw Suez, Panama, the Cape and many exotic places.

Five years ago she flew to Antigua to attend the wedding of her grandson Nick.

She enjoyed her garden, reading and tapestry before suffering a slight stroke in early January.

She will be remembered with great affection by all who knew her as someone who had a full and busy life, but who enjoyed every aspect of it.

A large congregation of family and friends attended her funeral at Parc Gwyn which was officiated by Canon Geoffrey Gwyther.

This was followed by a happy gathering at one of her favourite local places, Castlemead Hotel, Manorbier. She is survived by her two sisters, Nan and Ruth, her brother Peter, her children Pat and Peter, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mrs P. Regemortel Tenby Perry Regemortel died at her home in Lady Park, Tenby at the age of 90.

A native of Tenby she taught at the Church School, Lower Park Road. She left to have two children and returned to teach at Manorbier School, then Tenby Infants and St Florence V. P. School. It was in the latter that she spent most of her career as a dedicated and enthusiastic teacher, NUT representative and a gold medalist for elocution teaching. She retired from teaching at the age of 62 in 1978.

She won the Victor Ludorum at Greenhill School, produced plays at Little Theatre and acted.

She was keen on history and was the secretary of the historical society at Tenby. She was a bird watcher, secretary for the West Wales Naturalists Trust, and also trained young farmers in public speaking.

She became a Christian in 1971 and spoke at many meetings. She was a supporter of Prayer for Israel and was part of the Lydia movement. She was a very lively and enthusiastic Christian.

She married John G. E. Regemortel, accountant and owner of Lollipop shop, Tenby, who died in December, 1997.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners were Janet Regemortel (daughter); Jill Thomas (daughter); Kerry Thomas (son-in-law); Matthew, Benjamin, Michaela and David Thomas (grandchildren); Joan Langhorne (sister); Cathrin Drake, Heather and Jack Murrell, Francis Riddle.

The funeral was held at Tenby Baptist Church, followed by interment at Tenby cemetery. It was officiated by Rev Rob James and Rev Tom Toruk. The bearers were Ken Purvis and Omir Arnold.

Mrs O. James Pembroke Dock The funeral took place recently of Olwen James, of Hawkstone Road, Pembroke Dock, who died aged 84.

Originally from Pembroke Dock and Pembroke she was a land girl in the war and was involved in construction of runways.

When she retired she was a cleaner at Pembroke Comprehensive School.

She enjoyed gardening, growing vegetables and flowers.

She was predeceased by her husband, John James and her son William John James.

The principal mourners and family left to mourn are Anthony (grandson); Alison (granddaughter); Ron (brother) and Barbara (sister-in-law); William and Thomas (great-grandsons); Olwen M. The funeral took place at Monkton Priory Church followed by interment at Angle Road Cemetery. It was officiated by Rev Martin Cox. The bearers were Anthony James (grandson), Jason Gorrod (granddaughter's husband), David Pannell (family friend), and Stewart Treharne.

Miss W. Brock Milton The funeral took place at Carew Methodist Chapel, on Saturday, February 24th, of Winifred Brock, of Milton, Tenby.

Miss Brock died at her home on Monday, February 9th.

Winnie was born in Llangwm, in September, 1916, and was the eldest daughter of William and Elizabeth Brock. When she was two years old the family moved to Milton, her father transported the family and furniture by rowing boat, landing his precious cargo on a high tide on the shore by Milton Bridge.

Winnie's school days were spent at Carew Cheriton Church School. After completing her education Winnie went into service, firstly at Welston Court, Milton, with captain Ashton and his wife and later with Mrs James, at Park Street, Pembroke Dock.

Winnie was working in Pembroke Dock during the night of the heavy bombing raid in May, 1941.

It was shortly after this that she joined the Land Army and was posted to Milton Back (now Milton Manor).

Winnie felt very privileged to be selected to visit Buckingham Palace in 1945, with a contingent of Land Army personnel to meet the King and Queen Mother.

Winnie continued to work for the Hawkes family at Milton Back as a gardener until the late sixties.

She then joined her sisters and brother in the family bakery and grocery business, E. Palmer and Co. delivering over a wide area of south Pembrokeshire.

Winnie retired when the business closed in 1973 and spent her time looking after her parents.

A life long member of Carew Wesley Chapel, she took great delight in arranging the flowers for Sunday worship, a task performed in memory of her brother Eric, who was killed in Holland, in 1944. Winnie could be found every November walking around the area collecting for the Poppy Appeal.

Winnie will also be remembered affectionately by the youth of the community who passed through the Sunday school and youth club, and the many cricket teams who prepared in the pavilion on a Saturday afternoon.

Her greatest delight was her garden, and her wonderful display of flowers.

The funeral was held in the chapel she loved so much followed by interment at Carew Cheriton Cemetery.

The large gathering was testimony to the high regard in which Winnie was held in the community.

The service was conducted by Rev Anthony Gregory, with a reading by Deric Brock.

The bearers were Llewellyn Rogers, Roland Rogers, Willie Richards, George Young, Huw Brock and Deric Brock.

Mrs R. E. Davies Little Haven Rowena Elizabeth Davies died, aged 68, at her home, at Howleston Farm, Little Haven.

Originally from Steynton, she was a housewife and partner in the family farm.

Her main interests were sewing, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren. She was also involved in numerous local organisations.

Mr T. White Fishguard The funeral service took place on February 14th of Terry White, of Wallis Crescent, Fishguard.

Terry died on February 8th at Withybush Hospital, Haverfordwest, at the age of 67.

Husband to Rozelle, Terry was born in Swansea but came to Fishguard in the early 1970s and worked on the building of the Frenchman's Motel in Goodwick.

He joined the Ministry of Defence Police, at Trecwn, and when the depot was closed in the early 1990s he was relocated to Salisbury, in Hampshire, until he retired in 1996.

The funeral service took place at St Mary's Church, Fishguard, and was followed by interment, at Hermon cemetery. The service was conducted by the rural dean, Roger Griffiths.

Mr A. N. Jenkins Ipswich (Formerly of Haverfordwest) The funeral service for Andrew Jenkins took place at Parc Gwyn, on Monday, March 5th.

Andrew died recently in Bury St Edmunds, at West Suffolk Hospital, where he had been a patient for just two weeks, aged 45.

Andrew started work in Swales Music Centre but left when he was 18 to train as a nurse for the mentally handicapped, at St Margaret's Hospital, Great Barr, Birmingham.

Having qualified he stayed at the hospital for the next 18 years. Andrew then moved to Ipswich where he lived for the following six years.

He leaves to mourn Gwen and Michael Jenkins (mother and father); Ian and Lisa Jenkins (brother and sister-in-law); Jack (nephew); Ellen (niece); Anita and Howel John (aunt and uncle); Betty Foord and Pam Mathias (aunts); and many other family members and friends, including close friends Carol and Paul, Dave, Val, Antony, Lynne and Phillip.

The bearers, all cousins, were Nigel John, Brian Goodridge, Carl Mathias and Martin Monnelley.

The service was conducted by the Rev Elwyn John, assisted by Pastor Adrian Vaughan.

Mr E. W. Bancroft Maidenhead (Formerly of Tenby) The funeral of Eric Windham Bancroft, of 53 The Crescent, Maidenhead, who died on February 27th, was held at Slough Crematorium on March 8th.

Aged 81, he is survived by his wife Pat, brother and sister-in-law Dennis and Ann, nephews John and Patrick, their wives Susan and Hester, nephew Graham Page and his cousin Tony Mason.

The family were joined at the funeral by many of Eric's friends, including representatives from RNLI Tenby branch and from the Rotary Club of Tenby. The bearers were four of his lifeboat committee, Fred Broomhead, Peter Lowe, Colin McDowell and Arthur Squibbs.

After service in the RAF and a spell on the rubber plantations of Malaya, he returned to Pembrokeshire in the late 1940s.

He married Joyce Fereday and together they took over the Begelly Arms where Eric became a popular landlord.

A move into Tenby saw Eric and Joyce running the Blue Peter Gift Shop, in Bridge Street, before Eric took over as senior partner of the family firm of estate agents, Frank B. Mason and Co, following his brother Dennis' retirement in 1963.

Eric served on the lifeboat committee for many years, becoming a deputy launching authority in 1973.

On retiring from business in 1980, he was appointed honorary secretary of the Tenby Lifeboat Station, a post he loved and which he held until 1994.

The RNLI recognised the exceptional service he had given the institution, awarding him a gold badge which was presented to him by the Duke of Kent.

Eric was a long serving member and past president of the Rotary Club of Tenby, and was also a staunch supporter of Tenby Museum, serving on the committee for many years.

Eric's first wife Joyce died in 1989.

He married former childhood sweetheart, Patricia Coleman, in 1996.

Although initially they shared their time between Tenby and Pat's home in Maidenhead, they eventually settled in the latter.

The ashes will be interred in the garden of St Mary's Church, Tenby, on Wednesday, March 21st, at 4pm.

All are welcome, particularly those who were unable to attend the funeral. Assemble in the garden on the St George's Street side of the church.

Mrs G. D. Price Hakin The funeral took place on March 7th of Gwendoline (Gwenda) Doris Price, of Hayston Avenue, Hakin, who died at home, aged 90.

Originally from Cardiff, Gwenda moved to Milford Haven in 1947 and ran a family business with her husband Len and son Martyn until her retirement. The business, Prices, in Charles Street, still continues today.

She was the first woman mayor of Milford Haven, between 1980 and 1981; the president of both the Inner Wheel and the Soroptimists in Milford Haven and she was a member of North Road Baptist Chapel.

Her husband Len died in 1997.

The funeral service took place at North Road Baptist Church, followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn. It was officiated by Rev Paul Bartlett and Rev Ron Price.

The principal mourners were Martyn and Linda Price (son and daughter-in-law) and Christopher and Sarah (grandchildren).

Mrs J. F. White MBE Llangwm The funeral took place on February 23rd of Julia Francis White, neé Ashton, of Port Lion, Llangwm. She died at the age of 73 at Withybush Hospital.

Originally from Wallington, Surrey, Julia was a chartered librarian and it was during her time in the library at the school of Oriental and Asiatic studies in London that she met her husband Ted White.

After marriage they returned to North Borneo where Ted was working as a district officer, Ted died in 1998.

Julia received her MBE in 1993 for services to the community and the Conservative party.

Julia had many interests and was heavily involved with the Conservative party both locally and at a national level.

She was passionate about cricket and was a lifelong member of Surrey County Cricket Club as well as supporting Glamorgan and Burton CC. She loved the arts, in particular dance and theatre, and was a great supporter of the Torch Theatre.

Julia was an active member of the community, a member of Burton parish council and was on the governing body of the local primary school. She was a regular attendee at Burton Church.

She was well-loved and respected and will be missed by all who knew her.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Victoria and Rosemary (daughters) with partners Phil and Graeme; Daisy, Amber, Molly and Harrison (grandchildren); Maureen White (sister-in-law); Caroline Ohrner, Michael Leach, Amy Oben (cousins).

Mrs B. M. Uphill Narberth The funeral of Beatrice Mary Uphill took place on January 24th. She died at Blaenmarlais Care Home, Narberth, aged of 94.

Beatrice was a kind, popular woman, greatly respected by all who knew her. She was dearly loved by her family and will be greatly missed.

She was a native of Robeston Wathen. When she was a young girl she was well known for her butter-making, winning prizes in local shows and moving on to represent her county at Dairy Show in London. She continued with her butter-making work when she moved to the Dynevor Estate, where she managed the private dairy.

She returned to Pembrokeshire before marrying her beloved husband Willie in 1936.

After their marriage, they moved to Glanafon, near Haverfordwest, where they stayed for several years before moving to Panteg, at Llanddewi Velfrey.

During their time at Panteg, Beatrice supported her husband over many years in the agricultural community. He was a hard-working member of several committees, most notably with the National Farmers' Union.

Together they continued to run a successful farming enterprise at Panteg until their retirement in 1971.

On retirement they moved to The Dell, at Robeston Wathen, but Willie died in May 1972, before they had a chance to enjoy their retirement together.

Beatrice continued to live at The Dell until 1989 when she moved to Adams Drive, Narberth, where she stayed until she moved into Blaenmarlais Care Home, in October last year.

She was a faithful member of St David's Church, Llanddewi Velfrey, for many years, and held the post of rector's warden for many years.

She was a past president of Llanddewi Velfrey WI and maintained a regular attendance at its meetings for many years.

She is survived by her sister Elsie Hancock, who was unable to attend the funeral.

She was predeceased by her youngest sister Hester Nicholls. Left to mourn are numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, godchildren and friends.

The well-attended funeral service was held at St Peter's Church, Lampeter Velfrey, followed by a short service at Parc Gwyn. Her ashes were interred during a private service, at St David's Church, Llanddewi Velfrey. The officiating clergy were Rev Chancellor Morris and Rev Lewis.

The bearers at the church were Tim Simons, Rob Simons, Keith Thomas and Edward Howells (family friends), and at the crematorium David Hughes, John Morris, Dorian Howells and Andrew Lloyd (neighbours).

Mrs I. L. Jenkins Clarbeston Road The funeral took place on February 26th, of Ivy Lilian Jenkins, of Moorfield Avenue, Clarbeston Road, who died, aged 93, at Withybush Hospital.

Originally from East Greenwich, London, Ivy was in the NAAF during the Second World War. She was also a housewife and worked as a domestic help.

Her main interests were her home, gardening, knitting and embroidery. She also loved dogs, owning several over the years.

She was predeceased by her husband Henry (Harry) Jenkins.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Mr and Mrs Peter Jenkins (nephew and wife); Helen John (niece) and some close friends and neighbours.

The service took place at Parc Gwyn and was officiated by Nick Cale.

Mrs V. L. Griffiths Marloes The death occurred on February 22nd, of Violet Lilian Griffiths, of Tower View, Marloes. She died at Withybush Hospital, at the age of 84.

Born in Rosemarket, she lived for 49 years in St Brides and for the last nine years in Marloes.

Her early working life was spent in service and after marrying she worked for about 40 years for Donald and Mary Bagley, of St Brides. She retired from this job about 18 years ago.

Her husband Ronald Griffiths died in 2002.

Mrs W. (Jean) Vaughan Nolton Winifred (Jean) Vaughan died at her home, South Nolton Farm, Nolton, on February 20th, aged 74.

Jean was born at Bathersland, Roch, and lived at North Simpson Farm and South Simpson Farm before moving with her husband Leslie to South Nolton Farm, in 1953.

Leslie died in January 1993.

Jean was hard-working and her main interests were her family and life on the farm.

The funeral took place on February 28th, at St Madoc's Church, Nolton, followed by interment at Nolton cemetery. It was officiated by Rev Michael Rowlands.

Mrs M. Foster kilgetty The funeral took place recently of Maud Foster, who died at Highgrove Residential Home, Haverfordwest, aged 86.

Originally from Kilgetty, she worked in the village's Co-op for over 40 years.

During the Second World War she worked as a switchboard operator in the army.

Her main interests included bingo, crosswords, reading and gardening.

Her husband Fred died in 1990.

Mr N. Maire South Africa The funeral took place recently of Nigel Maire, of Nelspruit, South Africa, formerly of Crowhill, Haverfordwest. Nigel died at the age of 56 years.

Nigel was educated at Haverfordwest Grammar School until 1969 and then at Swansea University.

He left Haverfordwest in 1973 for a life in South Africa where he joined the construction business as a civil engineer. He became a multi-faculty engineer and was described by work colleagues as an engineer with a heart.

He helped to build most to the biggest projects in the country to include petrol refineries, steel foundries, power stations and aluminium shelters.

The latest project was at Chibutl Corridor Sands, Mozambique, extracting minerals from sand. The welfare of the local people was always paramount.

He was an extraordinary man who worked hard at whatever he did and with his wife Isabel, realised his dream of a macadamia nut farm in Nelspruit, in the beautiful Draconsberg mountains, near the Kruger National Park.

Nigel was loved and well respected by all he met and was mentor to many who recognised his many qualities.

He had the gift of listening to others and could offer meaningful help and guidance if asked for.

He was tragically killed in a road accident, on Sunday February 11th, when returning to Mozambique to work on his latest assignment.

This great man will be sadly missed by so many who loved him, the many who came to rely on him and by all those who worked with him.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners were Isabel Maire (wife), Ann Ruffles (sister); Mike (brother-in-law); Samantha Maire (daughter); Mark and Stephen and families (sons); Caroline and Kathryn (nieces); Christina and Carla (step daughter); Victor (stepson); Sean Wentel (son-in-law); Sharon Figueiredo, Pierre Louis and Martine, Johann and Isle Pretdrius, Suzette Colyn and Joan and Wayne Light.

A funeral service was held at Greenside Memorial Chapel, Johannesburg on Sunday, February 18th. David Jones, originally from Llanelli, led the service.

Tributes were made by Caroline on behalf of her mother; Ann (Nigel's twin sister); Mark, Stephen and Samantha (Nigel's sons and daughter) and Alan Cuddon on behalf of Nigel's work colleagues. The bearers were Mark Ingram, Stephen Ingram, Samantha Maire, Sean Wentzel, Alan Cudoon, Johann Pretdrius and Michael Linton. Cremation took place on Thursday February 22nd, at Braamfontein Crematorium, Johannesburg.

Mr H. Davies Llandissilio A large congregation gathered at Rhydwilym Baptist chapel, on February 16th, to show their love and respect for Hugh Davies, Llethermadin, Llandissilio, who died on February 9th, at his home, where he was born 85 years ago.

His main interests were farming and he loved singing and music of all kinds. In his younger days he would enjoy imitating opera stars as well as country singers. He loved yodelling.

He enjoyed meeting people and although he had not travelled far himself he made many friends from far and near.

He was a respected and loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and will be greatly missed by all.

The service was conducted by his minister Rev Eirian Wyn Lewis assisted by the Rev Huw George, Rev Elwyn John, Rev Llinos Edwards, Rev Jill Harries and Mr Eric John.

The bearers were Russell Llewellyn, Lyn Howells, Eris Howells, Barry Phillips, Martin James and John Beynon. Leaflets were distributed by Colwyn James and Danny Evans.

Family left to mourn are Elizabeth (wife), Mary, Huw and Dorian (daughter and sons); Moira and David, David and Jonathan, Endaf and Donna (grandchildren); Emily, Megan and Lili (great-grandchildren); Kenneth and Elfreda Davies, Trefor and Daphne Davies, Glenys Owens, Wyn Owens, Janet Rees, John and Josephine James (cousins) and other distant relatives. Unable to attend were Dilwyn and Fanw James (cousin).

There were family flowers only, with donations in lieu if desired to the CCU, at Withybush, to Ken Davies and Son, Clynderwen, who carried out the funeral arrangements.
