SIR - Pete Lund (T&A, January 29) unfairly accuses me of an "outburst against" Romanian artist Valentin Boiangiu and his sister Gabriela in my letter (T&A, January 23).
Apart from the fact that there was no mention of Ms Gabriela Boiangiu in my letter, I guess that Mr Lund's complaint is really about what he imagines I meant to write instead of what I actually did write, supplemented by absurd suggestions about what he perceives to have motivated me.
The outburst as such was against the Arts Council. Far be it from me to suggest that a couple of artists who according to Mr Lund have done sterling work in Thornton should not be grant-aided in their endeavours.
The question raised was how a set of postcards collected by - but not (according to T&A report) illustrated by - Mr Bioangiu and then taken to Romania could contribute to British culture and whether a postcard display in Romania is an appropriate project for Arts Council of England support.
As for the 25th anniversary of the demise of D'Oyly Carte, which formed the core substance of my letter, I assure Mr Lund that I have no feeling of sour grapes but one of sadness - sadness that 100 years of British cultural heritage was abandoned by the Arts Council.
