It's more than 60 years since well-known actor, singer and director Ian Wilson first trod the boards in amateur theatre.

And his varied experiences provided the material for a one-man show, One Damned thing After Another', which he presented in Ilkley a few years ago.

Now, after considerable revisions and additions, he has renamed the show Another Damned thing After Another' and is bringing it to Bingley Little Theatre's upstairs Studio at the back of Bingley Arts Centre on January 27 and 28.

It's a compilation of theatre, prose, verse, songs and jokes with excerpts from works by a diverse range of authors ranging from Shakespeare to Alan Bennett and Spike Milligan.

"I suppose you could call it a retrospective of my life in the theatre," said Ian who has lost count of the number of plays and musicals he has been involved with over the years.

And he is still going strong. Last year he directed plays for three different societies including Bingley Little Theatre as well as giving talks on theatre to local organisations.

Major roles over the years have included Macbeth and Archie Rice in The Entertainer' and more recently the butler in Annie' and Mr Bumble in Oliver Twist'.

His home base is Ilkley Playhouse which he joined in 1960 and of which he is a former chairman but he has also performed and directed with local amateur dramatic and operatic societies throughout the district.

Ian first gained his love of theatre by appearing in plays at school and at Leeds University. He worked as a professional actor touring Scotland for a year before opting for the more secure life as a teacher later becoming a lecturer in drama at Bradford College.

Tickets for his one-man show are £5 including pie and pea supper and are available from Ian on 01943 830141 or from Bingley Little Theatre on 01535 272114. Performances start at 7.30pm.
