Royal Scottish National Orchestra
Thu Feb 8, 7.30pm, Music Hall, Union Street, Aberdeen, £12.50, 01224 641122; Fri 9, 7.30pm, Usher Hall, Lothian Road, Edinburgh, £10-£28, 0131 228 1155; Sat 10, 7.30pm, Royal Concert Hall, Buchanan Street, Glasgow, £10-£30, 0141 353 8000
The RSNO's music director, Stephane Deneve, has shown himself willing to get into the spirit of occasions such as this. It is difficult to imagine previous chief conductor Alexander Lazarev appearing in full costume, complete with large knife protruding from his back, as Deneve did for last year's Hallowe'en concerts. It's an event he now follows up (hopefully, sans knife) for a Gallic-flavoured Valentine's programme, which features popular works by Bizet, Massenet (the Meditation from Thais) and Chausson, among others, and concludes with Ravel's Bolero.

Messiah
Thu Feb 8, 7.30pm, St Mungo's Cathedral, Glasgow, £10 (£6); Sat 10, 7.30pm, St Mary's Cathedral, Palmerston Place, Edinburgh, £10 (£6) RSAMD box office: 0141 332 5057
Just when you didn't expect to hear any more performances of Messiah until Easter, another comes along, as the chamber choir and soloists from the Royal Scottish Academy in Glasgow join forces and the orchestra of the Universitat de Kunste Berlin in the interests of Anglo-German co-operation.
