Portland United scored three first-half goals to cruise to victory over Swanage at Days Park.

Matt White notched a brace and Carl Mutch scored a header as the Blues stayed in touch with Holt United and Westland Sports at the top of the Dorset Premier League table.

"I am very pleased," said Blues' manager Dave Kiteley. "In the first half we were outstanding. The game was over at half-time."

Portland took the lead after two minutes. Lewis Whyton teed-up his strike partner and White controlled with his chest before firing low into the Swans' goal.

Ten minutes later, White had his second. Mutch found White who was brought down inside the box. The striker picked himself up to convert from the penalty spot.

Mutch hit the post and was then denied the goalkeeper before he got on the score-sheet. The powerful midfielder headed in after a great delivery from John Lamb.

Blues' goalkeeper Paul Gadsby was a spectator throughout the first half and was hardly troubled in the second.

"To be fair to them," said Kiteley, "they had a lot of possession second half, but our back four was outstanding."

Jimmy Dailey had to make a goal-line clearance in the second period but Gadsby did not have a save to make and Kiteley was delighted to earn a result in difficult conditions.

"We played to the conditions," he said. "I am happy with the clean sheet and the way we played as it wasn't the conditions to play football."

White hit the post and then Lamb was denied when through one-on-one as Portland tried to add to their total, and Whyton missed by a whisker.

"We have got to keep the momentum," added Kiteley. "I still believe there will be twists and turns in the title race."
