Works to improve facilities at a historic Halesowen park are now under way.

Contractors have moved on site to start a programme of path improvements at The Leasowes.

Initially this will concentrate on the path to the south of Lady Pool and the fencing and planting works for the conservation area.

In addition, the flight of steps at the top of Top Wood is to be replaced and paths near Hollies Drive and at the Kent Road entrance will be resurfaced.

The work was identified as a priority by the Friends of The Leasowes in consultation with the community after scooping £79,485 through the scheme.

The work is due to finish by mid May.

Councillor Charles Fraser Macnamara, cabinet member for leisure and culture, said: "I'm delighted these works are getting under way as they will make a real difference for visitors to the park. I would ask people to bear with us while work is on-going."

Dudley Council was just one of 27 authorities across the country picked to share a slice of £89 million through the government Liveability Fund.
