A middle-aged man was seriously assaulted in West Swindon this morning as he walked along Wootton Bassett Road.

The unprovoked attack happened between 1.30am and 2.15am.

The 48-year-old was heading towards Toothill and Freshbook when he walked under a underpass along the Great Western Way.

He had walked to Mannington Lane when he was attacked from behind without warning leaving him with serious, but not life-threatening fractures.

Police say the victim may have been attacked by more than one person.

The man had walked from Victoria Hill along Commercial Road passed the park up towards the Esso garage The victim is a 6ft tall white man of smart appearance with short grey hair and was wearing light blue jeans and a light coloured jacket at the time of the attack.
