A SERVICE club is hoping a musical concert will boost funds to help charities across the globe.

The Rotary Club of Redcar has supported a number of international projects on behalf of its international charity arm the Rotary Foundation.

The Redcar organisation has sent two water purification pumps, which supply drinking water to two villages in a remote part of India, and also helped to equip a college in Iasi, Romania, with computers.

To mark the work of the club, Rotary members helped plant 100 rose trees in Borough Park, Redcar.

The trees were given to the town to mark the work of the Rotary Foundation.

The group has managed to raise £870 this year through individual contributions, but hopes to boost funds further by holding a concert.

The music will be performed by the Middlesbrough Jazz and Blues Orchestra, at Redcar Workingmen's Club, in the High Street, on Wednesday, at 8pm. It will be the band's first appearance in Redcar.

Tickets, priced £5 including a pie and peas supper, are available from the workingmen's club, Rotary club members, O'Grady's Hotel, in Queen Street, or by contacting Mike Clark on 01642-485661.
