It's a case of following in sir's footsteps at Basildon's Chalvedon School.

For their under-14 team have just won the Essex Schools' Rugby Union Cup with a 12-10 win over Thundersley's King John.

And this latest success was their first since they won the competition back in 1991 against Coopers Coborn - the current head of PE Dave Burnett scoring the try on that occasion 16 years ago.

In this latest success substitute Tipiwa Sibanda came on to score the winning try two minutes from time in a final staged at the May and Baker Sports Club in Dagenham.

Chalvedon will now represent Essex in the Eastern Counties Schools' Cup on April 18.

Said Burnett: "This team has improved beyond my expectations this year.

"I set the boys two targets this year - the first was to make it past the pool stages of the Essex Cup and the second was to win more matches than they lost.

"We were given the pool of death' with last year's winners, King Edward and Campion, in it.

"They are two very well respected and established rugby playing schools and we managed to overcome both.

"Many of the players have started to play rugby outside school, mainly at the Basildon club, and they have been instrumental in developing their skills.

"Winning this final means the team have gone undefeated all year and that's a superb achievement for the boys."
