TAUNTON'S Adam Pengilly is set to secure his best finish yet in the Bob Skeleton World Cup series.

With one round remaining the 29-year-old is fourth in the overall standings. Last year he finished ninth overall and 18th the season before.

Pengilly finished 12th in the penultimate event in Winterberg, Germany last week with the final round taking place tomorrow (Friday), in Konigsee, Germany.

Pengilly was one of the early pacesetters after the first run of the Winterberg round but a disappointing second slide saw him slip back to 12th. That finish means he dropped one place to fourth in the overall standings.

In the previous round in Cesana Pariol, Italy, the venue for the last Winter Olympics, Pengilly was fifth - his joint best finish.

Meanwhile, Pengilly secured a superb ninth place in the World Championships in St Mortiz, Switzerland at the end of January.

He climbed from 14th place at the overnight halfway mark - after two of four runs - and with a strong final run he leap-frogged GB team mate Kristan Bromley (11th) to clinch ninth spot.

Bath University-based Pengilly completes the season with the Konigsee round of the World Cup, which doubles as the European Championships.

After that he will go to Lake Placid, in up state New York, for a couple of weeks to get more ice time training before the end of the season when there will be no more ice anywhere to practice.

Next season starts in October with the British Championships in Lillehammer, Norway.
