WHILE other youth clubs may struggle to attract youngsters into their ranks, one Scout group is so busy it has started up another troop.

The 4th Barnehurst Group, which has its own headquarters behind St Martin's Church, Erith Road, Barnehurst, has just launched a new mixed Scout troop to complement its all-boys one.

The group also has two mixed Beaver colonies, two Cub packs - each with around 30 boys and girls - and now two Scout groups.

Thirteen boys and girls were enrolled into the new troop last week, while the all-boys' troop has 25 boys.

Group Scout leader Warren Baseley said: "We had a number of leaders who wanted to open a new troop and we specifically wanted to open a mixed one so youngsters can start in the Beavers at six and go all the way through to Scouts.

"It also gives them a variety of activities to choose from."

The new troop meets on Mondays from 7pm to 9pm and the all-boys troop on Tuesdays. Both cater for youngsters aged from 10 to 14.

The group is also looking for more leaders to help with all age groups. To find out more, email gsl@sky.com
