Bob Brimson revealed he allowed himself ten minutes to enjoy the thrill of victory on his first race night as a promoter.

Now the Eastbourne Eagles boss has vowed to make matches more and more exciting for fans as his debut season progresses.

Brimson delighted home supporters by running out to celebrate as Nicki Pedersen and Davey Watt ensured a thrilling 46-43 home win over Poole in heat 15 of a seasonopening challenge fixture on Saturday.

Although he admits there is work to do on and off the track, Brimson has taken heart from a paying gate of 1,700 and the fact his team won without performing at their best.

And he has no regrets about his very public show of euphoria as the match was won.

He said: "It was a fantastic night.

Great entertainment, great finish.

"I came out of it as a bit bonkers because I had kind of been preparing myself for defeat in heat 15.

"Poole had two of the world's best riders in that race.

"I watched it go around bends one and two, then I had to look at the floor. I braced myself to look at the track again and realised it was actually happening.

"When they were doing the fourth lap I was running after them screaming and jumping.

"I can't tell you what I was screaming. Three months of frustration and headaches came out in one go. It was the most fantastic feeling.

"I'm a fan. If I had been in the stand I would have been jumping up and down.

"I see no reason to stop doing that because I'm a promoter.

"I'm very passionate about my club and want them to win. We beat Poole in front of a big crowd.

"People don't realise how much I've gone through to make that happen."

Brimson, who took over the running of the club from long-serving Jon Cook in the close season, was at the track for more than 11 hours on Saturday.

He added: "I said before the meeting I needed a big pay day and I needed to beat Poole. We got both things.

"I allowed myself ten minutes of absolute, total joy. Then I started worrying about getting the scoreboard fixed."

Eagles have no fitness worries about tomrrow's return leg at Poole, which could give them a better idea as to how they might fare this season.

Lewis Bridger scored a handy 7+2 (4) on his Great Britain under-21s debut as they beat Denmark 55-35 at Oxford.

Eastbourne asset Edward Kennett, now on loan at Poole, scored a paid maximum 14+1 (5).
