Trading standards officers are urging anyone who receives an e-mail purporting to be from HM Revenue & Customs to get in touch.
A woman from the district contacted the police after she received an e-mail telling her she was due a tax rebate and asking her to fill out her bank details. She rang HMRC who told her it was a scam and she must report it. A police spokeswoman said trading standards were aware of the scam and asked anyone getting similar e-mails to get in contact with them.
