WORCESTERSHIRE County Council has now restricted use of it's waste disposal sites to county residents only.

They claim this is fair, since local Council Tax pays for the operation of waste sites. Hold on though, don't people who live in Bromsgrove District, eg Romsley and Clent, pop into neighbouring Halesowen and use the library and leisure centre?

Don't folks from the affluent Worcestershire villages of Hagley and Belbroughton use the subsidised swimming pool in Stourbridge?

Maybe even drop the odd bit of rubbish at the Stourbridge waste site, en route to their nearest shopping centre? Don't countless Worcestershire people benefit from the excellent museums and galleries in Birmingham, along with many free events the city stages.

How many Worcestershire people have the cheek to commute to the Black Country and Birmingham for work, potholing our roads and stealing our jobs? Only joking, you're all very welcome to share all these community facilities.

This decision by Worcestershire councillors is short-sighted. Two thirds of all waste at these sites is recycled. Local councils are supposed to be doing all they can to encourage green and sustainable action. I hear that people living just over the Warwickshire border will now have to drive over 20 miles round trip to recycle waste, rather than nip a couple of miles over the border.

What's that doing for air quality and global warming? Come on, scrap this decision, think global, as well as local.
