Since the launch of PlanetYork in August, the city has taken its environmental destiny into its own hands. We're all starting to think about saving energy to help fighting the biggest threat to our environment: climate change.

Already hundreds of business, schools, the University and York residents have joined PlanetYork. They've been looking at their homes, their office and school buildings and making them more energy efficient.

But now it's time to rethink our use of energy on the roads.

The petrol and diesel we use to run our cars and buses, vans and trucks, is releasing more carbon dioxide than plants and the oceans can absorb. That carbon dioxide is building up above our planet like a greenhouse, warming the planet and causing huge changes in our climate.

One-quarter of all the UK's carbon dioxide emissions comes from road transport.

Our road transport emissions are leading to more extreme weather - heavier floods, hitting us much more often, and gale force winds.

What can we do?

We'll show you how you can change to a less polluting car or truck - and there are government grants to help you. You'll also save money on your running costs.

We'll show you how to run your car so it uses less fuel. And we'll give you top tips on leaving the car at home!

Keep this guide on hand and be part of PlanetYork.
