TWO Salisbury Hockey Club players have helped England to international success in a Tri-Nations tournament in France.
Chris Rowland-Jones and Miranda MacTaggart were part of the England ladies veterans team that starred against the host nation and Italy in the inaugural competition, held on the Cote-d'Azure to celebrate the launch of ladies veteran hockey in France.
Both had been part of the England squad who played in the World Grand Masters tournament in Germany last year.
England took the honours at the picturesque AFS Antibes Hockey Club after enjoying two wins and a draw in their games.
Rowland-Jones captained the England team, and after accepting the trophy from the president of the Italian Veterans Hockey Association, said: "As a captain one can ask no more of your team than they utilise their greatest asset, that of playing not only for their own pride, but more importantly for each other.
"It was a great joy and honour to lead such a talented group of individuals who through sheer grit and determination showed what true teamwork can achieve."
The England camp also featured a third Salisbury representative as club chairman Jan Baker is currently vice-president of England Hockey.
The England vets team may visit Salisbury for an exhibition match next month with Sunday, April 29 the likely date for the game.
