Fast-growing law firm Harding Evans has recruited three specialist solicitors in a major expansion of its Wills and Probate department.

With the average wealth of families in south east Wales climbing sharply due to soaring property values, the firm say an increasing number of people need expert advice in handling their wills and difficult issues such as inheritance tax.

The three who have joined the team are experienced probate lawyers and inheritance tax planners Margaret Banks and Sarah Lahive, and Paul Lindsey, who specialises in court of protection matters as well as general wills and probate work.

After several years with a leading law firm in Wiltshire, Margaret is returning to Wales, where she has spent most of her earlier career. Outside work she is an enthusiastic gardener and Glamorgan cricket supporter.

Sarah, who graduated from Warwick University and undertook her legal practice course at Chester, is an associate member of Solicitors for the Elderly. She joins Harding Evans from a Bridgend law firm.

Swansea University graduate Paul is a native of Newport and has joined from another legal practice in the City. He is a keen follower of Formula One racing, rugby and American football.

Commenting on his appointment, Paul said: "Harding Evans' rapid expansion over the past five years and their clear commitment to the development of the Wills and Probate department made them the obvious choice to pursue my ambitions in the legal sector."

Head of department Elin Philips said "Recruiting experienced solicitors like Margaret, Sarah and Paul represents a large investment for Harding Evans and underlines the huge potential for this side of the business."

Harding Evans, which was established in 1871, is the eighth largest law firm in Wales with a total staff of more than 120, including 11 partners and more than 50 fee-earners.

The firm is currently pursuing a strategy to double in size over the next five years.
