Cat-loving couple Caroline Harris and Douglas Pledger have written a book inspired by their home.

The colourful tale, Miles Around London, follows inquisitive feline Miles, who is used to venturing out into the familiar grounds of his home turf in Muswell Hill. But one morning he learns that there are more adventures awaiting him beyond the back garden and the little kitten decides to take matters into his own paws and embark on a journey into the capital where he befriends a pigeon named Cabby.

Through beautiful illustrations, the book educates children about the famous places, landmarks and transport London has to offer, proving that curiosity doesn’t always kill the cat.

Inspired by the travelling cat stories that often appear in our newspapers, Caroline Harris and Douglas Pledger have designed, written and illustrated this story aimed at pre-school children.

Caroline Harris, 27, a librarian at Enfield Town Library, has completed commissions for Oxfam and Hiitgirl and says: “We decided to base Miles’ story in our lovely Muswell Hill, as I have fond memories of going to school there.”

Douglas Pledger, 33, has illustrated work for The Simpsons, Channel 4 and Nestlé.
