A horny film created by an Enfield man has won an award at the British International Amateur Film Festival.

Eric Jukes, of Kenilworth Crescent, submitted his short film The Woman with Horns upon her Head to the event in Sittingbourne, and was awarded two stars.

He was inspired to make it by a pamphlet published in 1676 entitled A brief narrative of a strange and wonderful old woman that hath a pair of horns growing upon her head.

Eric says: “My son was studying these pamphlets as part of his degree course. This one caught my eye and I thought it would make a good short film, and actually I was rather pleased with the result.

“A lot of these early pamphlets had completely bogus stories just to sell the pamphlet.“

However research seems to suggest that the story in the pamphlet is based on fact, and the woman with horns was actually suffering from a medical condition not understood at the time.

She is said to have frequented the area of the Swan Public House in Charing Cross and the film examines the pamphlet and searches modern Charing Cross to see if the old woman is still there.

Eric is chairman of Enfield Video Makers, which meets at St Stephens Church Hall, Park Avenue, Enfield on the first and third Tuesday of the month from 8pm.
