Hackney Colliery Band

The swinging brass nine-piece from East London will provide the ultimate soundtrack to your night out. They bring the brass band tradition bang up to date with an eclectic repertoire that spans funk, hip-hop, rock, Balkan brass, electronica and contemporary jazz, with unexpected covers of Adele, The Prodigy, Kanye West, Toto and more.

Professor Nitrate’s Mission to Mars

Professor Nitrate demonstrates some of the science of sending a rocket into outer space in exuberant science shows that all can enjoy. The space theme continues with families enjoying an array of activities on offer throughout the nine days. Further activities include decorating space suits, taking selfies at a Space Window, and testing skills for outer space by making and launching model rockets with the help of the Professor’s assistants. Then there is the Royal Gunpowder Mills’ Rocket Vault where real rockets and satellites are kept, with a quiz that families can complete as they learn.

Boogie among the animals

Fun games, arts and crafts and a children’s 70s disco, all in a setting taking visitors back to the 70s to mark the farm’s opening 40 years ago. Special activities for the day include a chance to jump and jive on the farm’s Rainbow Jumping Pillow, a Flashback Farmyard Trail and animal shows throughout the day. There are also plenty of adventure activities, with play areas, toboggan rides and a chance to conquer the slopes of the Alpine Adventure or become an archaeologist, discovering the ancient bones buried in Dino-chicken World.

Discover London Children’s Book Swap

The Queen’s Theatre will open its doors to anyone wanting to recycle their children’s books and give children new books to read. For one day only, literally thousands of books will be swapped in an action-packed day of free activities. Families attending the event can bring an old book along with them to the theatre and swap it for a different book to take home for free. Suitable for children aged 3–16.
