A Wood Green man was among four arrested in dawn raids across London by police investigating the trafficking of women into the UK.

The 31-year-old Hungarian man was arrested at a house in Mayes Road, Wood Green, by members of the Met Police’s Trafficking and Prostitution Unit (TPU) at 6am this morning.

The man was one of four arrested on suspicion of trafficking for sexual exploitation into, within and out of the UK and perjury.

Addresses in Enfield, Barnet, Tower Hamlets, and Luton were also raided with police finding potential victims at some of them.

The TPU has been investigating organised criminal networks which have been trafficking hundreds of women from Eastern Europe.

Detective Inspector Kevin Hyland of the TPU said: "These arrests follow a six-month investigation.

"We believe that many women have been brought into the country having been told they will be given jobs, only to then be forced to work as prostitutes, with some being physically abused and raped in the process.”
