A driver who killed a cyclist in Tottenham has been banned from driving for three years.

Jonathan Baird, 63, of Margaret Avenue in Waltham Forest, hit 41-year-old cyclist Frank Mugisha in White Hart Lane on March 27 last year.

Baird, who pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving, received a six month prison sentence suspended for two years, and was ordered to pay £500 in costs and undergo 150 hours of unpaid work.

He can apply to take an extended driving test in three years to receive another licence.

Father-of-four Mr Mugisha, from Hoe Lane in Enfield Wash, died from multiple injuries in the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel six days after the crash.

Mr Mugisha, who was originally from Uganda, is remembered by his 33-year-old friend Isaac Adams as a “lovely” and “popular” man who got on with everyone.

More than 300 people attended his funeral in Mary Mother of God Catholic Church in Nags Head Road to pay their respects to the family man in the days after his death.

Baird was sentenced at Wood Green Crown Court in Lordship Lane on January 25 after pleading guilty to causing death by dangerous driving on December 21.
