More than 100 people attended a conference looking to build support for community led regeneration in Tottenham.

The 110 representatives from 30 different community groups came together for the Our Tottenham Conference on Saturday.

The meeting included a number of workshops looking at a number of issues in the area surrounding Haringey Borough Council’s Plan for Tottenham.

These included the defence of community facilities, housing, support for small businesses and developing local community plans.

James skinner one of the Our Tottenham conference organisers said: “Loads of really inspiring ideas and great proposals came out of the workshops at the conference.

“The plan now is to turn these into an Our Tottenham Community Charter, something that brings together the aspirations of the many communities in Tottenham and sets out the actions we’ll take together.

“The success of this conference is yet another sign that we’re not going to put up with the undemocratic and unjust way Haringey Council and property developers approach regeneration in Tottenham.

“It shows that local people have the ideas, skills and energy to regenerate our neighbourhoods ourselves in a way that would actually benefit our communities.”

The Haringey Independent has contacted Haringey Borough Council about the conference and is awaiting a reply.
