A student who runs his college’s student union has been chosen as the best student governor in the in the country.

Atish Shah, who attends the College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London won the Student Governor of the Year Award 2013 at the fifth Leading the Learner Voice Awards.

He serves his peers as both a student governor and as the president of the students’ union.

Atish, who is in the final year of a Business BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma, said: “I am thrilled to have won an award for the work I’ve done with the college in representing students both as a student governor and as students’ union president.

“I enjoyed the work and I have learnt a great deal from it.”

The honours were presented by Rob Wye, the chief executive of the Learning Skills Improvement Service (LSIS), and its chairman, Dame Ruth Silver.

LSIS and the National Union of Students hosted the event on Tuesday June 18.
