All the secondary schools in Haringey are now rated either good or outstanding by the national education watchdog.

As of this week five of the borough’s high schools had achieved Ofsted’s highest status and the other six reached its second highest status.

Alexandra, Fortismere, Gladesmore, St Thomas More and Woodside High schools are all rated as outstanding.

Greig City Academy, Heartlands, Highgate Wood, Hornsey School for Girls, Northumberland Park and Park View schools have a 'good' rating.

Joan Mcvittie, the headteacher of Woodside High, said this was all thanks to schools working to support each other.

She said: “Obviously we were absolutely delighted to be rated outstanding and we are delighted that secondary schools across Haringey are doing so well.

“One of the key factors is that Haringey was made a London Challenge area many years ago and now the effects are starting to show.

“Secondary schools have also closely to support each other by sharing their areas of strength.

“There are still some problems with the primary schools but what we need to do now is support them and get them working with each other.”

The list does not include the John Loughborough Seventh Day Adventist School which is due to close permanently at the end of the school year.

Councillor Claire Kober, the leader of Haringey Borough Council, said: “This is a fantastic achievement that is down to sheer hard work, determination and efforts of the borough’s pupils, headteachers, staff and governors.

"When I launched ‘Outstanding for All’, Haringey’s education commission, I made a commitment that every child should have the opportunity to receive an excellent education.

"It’s great to see all our secondary schools are now delivering against that aspiration.

“There’s still lots more to do. Together, we will continue to build on this success and work towards supporting all schools in our journey of delivering an outstanding education for all.”
