The Metropolitan Police is investigating a series of anti-Semitic messages on Twitter following the FA Cup match between Arsenal and Tottenham.

A war of words is believed to have broken out between the two groups of fans following the game on Saturday, January 4.

Tensions rose after some Spurs fans threw coins at Theo Walcott as the Arsenal and England forward signalled 2-0 as he was stretchered off the pitch.

A spokesman from the Met’s Football Unit, which investigates hooliganism, said: “We are aware of anti-Semitic messages sent on Twitter and we are carrying out an assessment.”

The messages are believed to contain references to the Holocaust and gas chambers.
