Pubs and clubs in Haringey are being reminded to make sure they have a TV licence ahead of the RBS Six Nations Championship.
TV Licensing has issued a warning to pubs, clubs and sporting venues to make sure they are covered by a licence before the annual rugby union competition kicks off on February 1.
Landlords and managers risk prosecution and a fine of up to £1000 if they show live television without a licence.
TV Licensing spokesman Martin Dyan said: “With around 110 pubs within two miles of Haringey, many fans and supporters will choose to watch the matches in their local pub or rugby club, soaking up the atmosphere while cheering on their country’s finest 15.
“It’s important pubs and clubs are correctly licensed and we know landlords and managers want to stay within the law.”
Martin Caffrey, operations director at the Federation of Licensed Victuallers Associations, added: “Showing live sport is a massive draw for millions of pub-goers so I’d urge those in charge of buying the TV Licence to check the bar is correctly licensed while they have the time.”
