North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust has one of the lowest death rates of any hospital in England, recent figures have revealed.
Research by the Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC) showed that over two years, between July 2011 and June 2013, the hospital was one of 12 trusts with a ‘lower than expected’ mortality ratio.
Julie Lowe, chief executive the trust, said: “This key measure shows how well we perform nationally when it comes to the quality of care we provide.
“We continue to strive to provide high quality care to all our patients and are delighted to be among the 12 highest performers in the country.”
The finding, released in a new report, is based on summary hospital level mortality indicator (SHMI) data, which measures the ratio between the expected number of patient deaths following treatment at a hospital and the actual number.
Trusts are categorised in three ways - ‘as expected’, ‘lower than expected’ or ‘higher than expected.’
