Appeals for a period of free parking in Haringey’s high streets were rejected by the ruling Labour group setting this year’s budget.
The opposition Liberal Democrats had tabled an amendment calling for 30 minutes of free parking in the borough’s shopping parades to boost trade.
The party co-ordinated a petition signed by 1,750 people on the issue and handed it to the authority prior to Wednesday’s budget meeting.
But although the petition has now officially been received by the council, Labour rejected the amendment to its budget.
