Tottenham Hotspur captain Michael Dawson said he hopes to still be wearing the Spurs kit when the club’s new 56,000-seater stadium is complete.

The Spurs centre back told the Haringey Independent the new ground would be among the best in the world and that he hopes to get the chance to play there.

He made the comments ahead of the north London Club’s match against Chelsea this Saturday.

There is still no date for construction of the new stadium to begin, and the club is still awaiting the outcome of a Compulsory Purchase Order, which will be decided by Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government Eric Pickles.

Dawson said: “I’ve seen pictures of the stadium and when it is up and ready to go it’s going to be unbelievable.

“You’ve got the training centre which is one of the best around, if not the best, and certainly the stadium when it is up and running will be the same.

“I hope I get the chance to play there. I’m not too sure how many years it’s going to be until it’s up and running but hopefully I’ll still be in the Tottenham kit.”

Dawson has been at the club for nine years and, since the departure of Spurs legend Ledley King, is the longest serving player on the squad.

The north London club’s captain also said he is looking forward to the Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge.

He said: “I’m looking forward to the match. I look forward to every game I’m involved in and it’s a massive game at Stamford Bridge.

“They had a good game with us earlier in the season at White Hart Lane with 1-1 draw and we go there having a good away record.

“We have not won at Stamford Bridge since 1990 so hopefully we’ll go there, put in a good performance and get a good result.”
