The headteacher of a free school which was found to be “inadequate” in every category of its Ofsted report said he is committed to “rapid improvement”.

Hartsbrook E-ACT Free School, in Town Hall Approach Road, Tottenham, received the damning report following a visit by Ofsted inspector Ann Debono at the end of January.

It was the school’s first inspection since it was opened in September 2012 under Education Secretary Michael Gove’s flagship education policy.

The report said the Hartsbrook Free School required special measures and found 11 negative points including substandard teaching, leadership and safeguarding.

Interim principal Brendan Plunkett said: “Hartsbrook E-ACT Free School recognise the need for rapid improvement.

“Ofsted’s report paints a very clear picture of the immediate work that must take place to ensure our pupils are receiving the education they deserve.

“Action is being taken, with immediate changes being implemented, especially around teaching and learning.”

E-ACT is due to be dropped as the school’s sponsor following the Ofsted report.

However, Mr Plunkett added that the school would continue to work with current sponsor, E-ACT, on a school improvement plan that will be shared with Ofsted and parents.

He said: “It remains business as usual at the school prior to a new sponsor joining.

“There is a long way to go but I am excited by the challenge and believe I have the experience to help contribute towards positive changes.”

David Moran, the chief executive officer of E-ACT, said: “We continue to work closely with Hartsbrook E-ACT Free School and are providing additional support to address the areas of concern highlighted by Ofsted.”
