Four men have been jailed for a minimum of 114 years between them for murdering an innocent man in an execution-style killing as part of a Turkish gang feud.

Blaize Lunkula, Yusuf Arslan, Ndombasi Makusu and Christian Barabutu were sentenced at the Old Bailey today after they killed a man in retaliation for another murder in Tottenham.

Lunkula, 28, of no fixed address, was found guilty on February 27, of the murder of 21-year-old Cem Duzgan, who died on October 5, 2009.

He was sentenced to life imprisonment, to serve a minimum of 35 years.

Another three men were also found guilty in February. All were jailed today for the murder.

Arslan, 24, of no fixed address, was sentenced to life imprisonment, to serve a minimum of 33 years.

Makusu, 27, of no fixed address, was sentenced to life imprisonment, to serve a minimum of 28 years.

Barabutu, 22, of no fixed address, was jailed for a minimum of 18 years.

Mr Duzgan was shot 11 times with a sub-machine gun as he played a game of pool with his friends at the Clapton FC Club – a Turkish social club in Upper Clapton Rd, Hackney E5, at approximately 10.45pm.

The victim, who lived with his family in Islington and worked as a sales assistant at a clothes shop in Croydon, died at the scene.

The court heard that the murder was part of a spate of violent tit-for-tat incidents - including other killings - that took place between the Tottenham Turks and the Hackney Turks gangs.

Just three days before Mr Duzgan's murder, another man, Oktay Erbasli, had been shot and killed in a targeted attack while he was driving a car in the Roundway, Tottenham.

The prosecution case was that Mr Duzgan was then killed in revenge, although he was not thought to be the intended target.

The court heard that the gunman, Lunkulu, gained access to the club with the help of an accomplice who held open a pair of secure airlock doors.

People inside became aware something was happening and Mr Duzgan went to investigate the lobby area.

Lunkula opened fire, shooting 11 bullets through the victim's head, torso, arms and legs.

Ballistics experts later estimated that the weapon was less than 30cm from Mr Duzgan's head when it was fired.

Lunkula had travelled to the scene with Mukusu and Barabutu, who had been involved in planning and organising the shooting.

Mobile phone analysis found that all the defendants had dumped their phones shortly after the murder and did not use them again, but had been in contact with each other frequently before the killing.

The phone evidence also pinpointed Lunkula, Muskusu and Barabutu as being in the area of the club at the time of the shooting.

The other defendant Arslan remained away from the scene, having being the earlier 'organiser' and present at a 'council of war' when the revenge attack was planned on October 2, 2009.

The prosecution was able to produce evidence that Arslan had taken that time to call the brother of Oktay Erbaski immediately before and after the murder - when he reported that Oktay's death had been avenged.

Acting Detective Sergeant Simon Franklin, the case officer for the Homicide and Major Crime Command, said: "The victim was simply enjoying a night out with friends when he went to investigate a disturbance.

“Sadly this decision cost him his life as he became unwittingly caught up in a bitter and violent rivalry between two gangs operating in the area."

Detective Inspector Simon Ashwin of the Homicide & Major Crime Command said: "This has been a long and complex investigation linked to several other crimes and I am pleased with the sentences that have been handed down today.

"This will send a clear message that the streets of London cannot be ruled by fear and violence and that those who commit such offences and hide behind gangs will be brought to justice."
