Tube staff are on the verge of a second strike in as many weeks as talks between London Underground and union bosses continue.

The RMT Union is proposing a further three-day walk out in the on-going row over London Underground’s modernisation plans.

If talks fail, staff will stage a walkout from 9pm this coming Bank Holiday Monday.

Transport for London is already preparing a contingency plan for the latest strike.

A statement on its website reads: “If the strike goes ahead, services will be affected from around 9.30pm on Monday. On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday we hope to run a limited service on most lines from around 7am until around 11pm. The last services on some lines may leave central London around 9.30pm.”

The industrial action comes over a long-running dispute about London Underground’s plans to close ticket offices.

Union bosses say the move will cause job losses, but London Underground insists it has already had enough staff come forward for voluntary redundancy.

Train services across the capital have already been heavily disrupted this week by a 48-hour strike that began at 9pm on Monday.
