An online poll carried out by the Haringey Independent has found that the majority of readers are opposed to new parking restrictions in north Tottenham.

Two thirds of those who voted in the online ballot said they were not in favour of the controlled parking zones, which were introduced in side streets off the High Road last month.

Asked whether or not they felt it was a good idea to introduce the parking measures, 64 per cent responded in the negative.

But 32 per cent said they were in favour of the restrictions, while four per cent said they did not mind either way.

The council says it introduced the residential permits and time-restricted zones to free parking for residents and shoppers on match days.

They also said the aim of the strategy was to protect parking spaces in the longer term, when more schools and houses are built in the area as part of a major regeneration.

But business owners in the High Road have complained of a decline in trade since the measures were brought in.
