Park View School received a boost yesterday after being awarded funding for their breakfast club.

The school, off West Green Road, was given £200 by the cereal company Kellogg’s.

Rob Thomas, interim head-teacher at the school, said: “This grant from Kellogg’s will really help our club and we are looking forward to spending the money on subsidising breakfast for the children who are not getting it at home as well as buying some new crockery and cutlery and play equipment for the club.”

Park View is one of 1,000 schools from across the country to receive a grant after research revealed that more children than ever are going to school hungry.

Studies show that the result is a loss of education time, with teachers reporting that if a child arrives at school hungry, they will lose one hour of learning time that day.

If a child arrived at school hungry once a week over a school year, that adds up to 36 hours of learning time.
