A man stabbed in an allegedly anti-Semitic attack was Polish and not Jewish, police have said. 

The 24-year-old man who was taken to hospital suffering from stab wounds following violence at Markfield Park, Tottenham.

Police were called to a disturbance at the park, where a music event was taking place, at approximately 9.10pm on Saturday evening. 

A police spokesman said: "A group of around 20 people, predominantly male and from the Eastern European community, arrived at the location during the course of the event.

"This was a loose collection of people - not a designated march.

"Enquiries continue into the subsequent disorder, during which fireworks were thrown."

Police are appealing for anyone with information that may help the investigation into the incident to call Haringey CID on 101.
