The man, aged 38, was running in Coldfall Woods, Muswell Hill at around 8.30pm on Friday evening when he came across a man who appeared to be stretching at the side of the path.
The two men then found themselves briefly running towards each other on the same path.
When the victim stood aside to let the other man to pass, he was sexually assaulted.
