Tottenham Hotspur legend Ledley King tried his hand at a new project which helped design the first brain controlled fairground ride.

The engineering project sees students at Tottenham University Technical College working with industry experts to build a replica of the Loco system.

Developed by Middlesex University and Festo, the can b applied to a broad range of project, from creating virtual reality flight simulators to supporting new forms of theatre and dance.

Trying his hand, the former Spurs captain and club ambassador King was impressed by the technology on show for the students.

He said: ““The facilities at Tottenham UTC are out of this world and I would have loved to have been given the opportunity to work on a school project like Loco when I was their age.

“It was a strange feeling riding Loco whilst wearing Oculus Rift because you really do feel like you’re on a fairground ride. I’m looking forward to seeing the students’ progress with their project and maybe coming back to test it out when it’s finished.”

The students are the first UTC in the country to get to grip with Loco.

Eda Yildirim, a current Year 13 student said: “In my previous school I didn’t get any opportunities like this so being involved is really exciting.

“It will also give me more experience in engineering compared to many of my peers which is a real benefit when applying for jobs in the future. It was great to meet Ledley and Meridian Dan, especially when we got a chance to steer them in the chair.”

Nick Hindmarsh, Principal of Tottenham UTC, added “This is an exciting project for the youth of North London.

“One of our key objectives at Tottenham UTC is to improve employment prospects for our students and getting them ready for jobs in the Science, Technology, Sport, Health and Engineering industries that many not exist yet.”
