London’s Air Ambulance service has bought a second emergency helicopter.

The new chopper, registered G-LNDN, will be in the air from the beginning of next year, after a fundraising campaign made over £2million.

The ‘Your London, Your Helicopter’ campaign reached the amount required to purchase the helicopter, however a further £4million is needed to maintain the vehicle, and keep it in the air for five years.

Graham Hodgkin, chief executive officer at London’s Air Ambulance, said: “We are absolutely thrilled. While more money still needs to be raised and there is still more work to do to get the aircraft ready, this is a truly exciting development for London and the biggest change in our charity’s history.

“Thank you to all those who have already contributed. We will continue to fundraise towards our ultimate target and ask everyone to help in any way they can.”
