An animal charity centre have set up a pet food bank to help those who cannot afford to feed their companions.

Wood Green, The Animals Charity opened the pet food bank on September 25, and are welcoming all donations from local residents.

Victoria Phan, marketing manager, for the charity, said the idea had come about last year, after they had received a lot of requests from locals who were struggling.

She said: “The initial feedback has been very good, people have been very enthusiastic about us opening the food bank. The Mayor of Haringey came down to our opening”.

The pet food bank is a short term solution, with people able to get one week’s worth of food for up to three pets, six times a year. Victoria said that they are unable to provide longer term help at the moment, and that it was “up for discussion, but not on the table.”

“We’re doing all that we can. We have a plan for donation boxes to be provided to local community centres; it’s all down to donations and volunteers."
