A MOTHER who was left devastated after her cargo bike was stolen has launched a campaign to buy a new one.

Deborah Willemen, of Bruce Grove, Tottenham, had the quirky bike stolen from her front porch in the early hours of Saturday morning.

It took the mother-of-two five years to save up for her bike, which cost £2,000 and she is now desperate to buy another one.

She said: “She is sorely missed. I realise £2,000 is a lot of money as it took me five years to save up for my bike.

“But every single donation is appreciated from the bottom of my heart.”

The bike wheels were locked but it was not tied to a wall when it was taken.

While a neighbour saw a bearded white man in his early thirties and a hoodie walking away with it, he did not raise the alarm as he assumed it was a family friend.

She also fears an innocent family could end up being hurt or put at risk if it is sold on as the bike was damaged.

It can be used to transport children but was broken in a prior incident, making it difficult to steer and potentially unsafe to ride.

She added: “The bike lacks springs, which makes steering really hard. I am afraid whoever took the bike will sell it on to another family, which could be dangerous.”

Ms Willemen moved to London six weeks ago from Belgium and has been relying on her bicycle to get around with her children.

She chronicles her cycling exploits on her blog – London Cargo Bike Mum.

No arrests have been made and police are investigating.

In a statement, a spokesman said: “The incident has been reported to police and we can confirm a specialist bicycle was taken from outside a residence in Tottenham.

“Anyone who recognises a man fitting the description should contact Haringey Police.” So far, she has raised just under £300.
