Independent shop owners look set to receive a boost after a shopping mall pledged to provide specialized support.

Wood Green Business Forum is being launched to provide advice and support to local, independent retailers.

The aim of the new board is to generate sales at independent outlets and help boost business opportunities within Wood Green.

The Mall Wood Green’s marketing manager Isaiah Fapuro said: "As part of Haringey Council's regeneration plans, businesses in Wood Green are also seen as an area of development.

"While footfall is high on to the high road in Wood Green sales do not reflect that. The Forum aims to remedy this by providing businesses big and small an independent platform to push for developmental change that sees footfall convert into sales, and change the negative perception Wood Green has harboured.

“Topics that have been discussed have encompassed security, cleaning and transport."

Shoppers are being encouraged to get behind small businesses, with anyone spending £20 or more in The Mall Wood Green’s market hall on December 5 being rewarded with a free goody bag

The market hall, which opened in 1981, contains over 40 independent shops offering a variety of specialist goods including an international food hall which has dedicated fish, meat, fruit and vegetable markets.
