An exhibition showcasing ideas for redevelopments in the borough has gone on display this week.

The Wood Green’s Future exhibition at Wood Green Library sets out a range of ideas Haringey Council is exploring for long-term regeneration in the area.

The exhibition shows off ambitious plans by the council to build up to 5,000 new homes and create up to 4,000 job, as well as improve links to Alexandra Palace and the rest of London.

Feedback from consultation events earlier this year showed residents were concerned about safety, shopping facilities and tired public spaces, while independent research has shown that Wood Green’s economy is not performing as well as its counterparts across the capital.

The council hope their plans will be able to improve matter, with a lot of focus put on the planned Crossrail 2 rail link.

The council have supported the Crossrail 2 plans, saying it will cut journey times and bring new opportunities to Wood Green in the next 10 to 15 years.

This week’s exhibition, workshops and drop-in sessions with local residents and traders will help shape the council’s regeneration plan, which is expected to be considered by the Cabinet early next year.

Cllr Alan Strickland, cabinet member for housing and regeneration, said: “We’re committed to the regeneration of Wood Green, bringing thousands of modern new homes and career opportunities and once again making the town centre one of London’s best places to visit.

“We’re already invested millions into public space improvements, but the arrival of Crossrail 2 will give us a once-in-a-generation opportunity to secure Wood Green’s long-term future.

“Residents have already told us some of their priorities, but now we need your help in deciding how new housing, economic growth and a revolution in transport links help us respond to those priorities and meet the challenges of the future.”
