The borough’s brightest sporting talent was recognised last week at a regional awards ceremony.

The Haringey Celebrating Sport Awards on Wednesday, 18 October saw gongs given out in a host of categories at the event held for the ninth year at Tottenham Green Pools and Fitness.

The awards recognise sporting excellence, top quality coaching, volunteering and performance through 12 categories.

This year’s event also saw the presentation of a posthumous “Outstanding Contribution to Sport in North London Award” to late Tottenham Hotspur Ladies FC chairman Glenn Weaver, who dedicated 30 years to the club and women’s football before his death in February this year.

Glenn’s sister Val attended to accept the special award.

The event was hosted by London 2012 Forum chairman Richard Sumray, with awards handed out by Mayor of Haringey Cllr Jennifer Mann, Spurs star Michel Vorm and Team GB long-jumper Daniel Bramble.

Cllr Stuart McNamara, Haringey Council cabinet member for environment said: “Last night’s tremendous event saw us celebrating not just Haringey’s fantastic sportsmen and women, but also the teams of people behind them that make it possible for people in our borough to take part in sport.

“It was great to have the opportunity to celebrate the contribution that sport makes to our borough – from better health to community cohesion and teamwork.

“Congratulations to all the winners and their teams, and thanks for the hard work they do across Haringey.”
