A night of choir singing raised thousands of pounds for seriously ill children.

Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice, in Barnet, raised £8,000 after hosting a successful benefits concert at St James Church, Muswell Hill on November 21.

The Precious Moments Concert attracted over 450 people from across north London who gathered to enjoy afternoon and evening performances of popular, classical and festive songs from community groups, schools and musical performers.

The fundraiser was hosted by TV and Radio Presenter and Stand-up Comic, Kirsten O’Brien and was part of Noah’s Ark’s annual winter Precious Moments appeal.

The appeal raises awareness that children with life-limiting or-threatening conditions often require 24/7 care and for some families, leaving the house can prove an overwhelming task.

Speaking of her role as host, Kirsten O’Brien said “The performances from the young performers have really touched me today.

“With many of the performers being schools, what’s remarkable about this fundraiser is that it is about children helping children.”

“Every initiative, from the concert to the Noah’s Ark poetry book, The Goldfish Who Couldn’t Swim and Other Poems, is important.

“It’s the little things which make a massive difference, and hopefully will raise the funds for such an important charity as Noah’s Ark.”

Little Jessica, who has Rett Syndrome, a neurological brain disorder, is supported by the charity.

Before her diagnosis, Jess had been in hospital to investigate her seizures and she suffered from multiple medical problems.

Speaking of the time leading up to Jessica’s diagnosis, Liz and Colin, her parents, said: “We were all worried when Jess wasn’t hitting her milestones. At two years old and after many tests, she was finally diagnosed.”

“We were in crisis when Noah’s Ark stepped in. Jess’ connection with Paula, Noah’s Ark Specialist Carer, was instantaneous.

“Noah’s Ark volunteers, Jackie and Sibel, also volunteer and help with our bedtime routine. Paula, Jackie and Sibel have all become part of our family and they give us the chance to enjoy every precious moment with Jess.”

Noah’s Ark supports the family through specialist care and by providing home-based volunteers.
