THE future looks bright for a once-failing primary school which is celebrating winning an award.

Trinity Academy Primary School, in Bounds Green Road, Haringey, was given a ‘Quality Mark’ – four years after Ofsted said it requires improvement.

Headteacher David Worrall, who is one of two at the school, was brought in to help it turn its fortunes around.

He says the award is a testament to the hard work and determination the pupils and teachers have shown since 2012.

He said: “We are delighted. Part of our job was to turn the school around and now we have renewed confidence in it.

“The children have worked incredibly hard to develop their basic skills and they understand why they are important to them.

“We made learning fun but we have high expectations as well – meaning the children enjoy the challenge.”

Trinity Academy is the third school in Haringey to have been given a quality mark.

They are given to schools which show they are dedicated to improving standards in literacy and maths.

The director of Quality Mark was so impressed with the school that she personally visited pupils to present them with the award herself  - something she had never done before.

Grades at the school are now above the national average – something the teachers could have only dreamed off after 2011’s Ofsted report.

It is due to be inspected again next year and Mr Worrall and his colleagues are confident it will be judged a ‘good’ school.

He says credit should go to teachers Melissa Martinez and vice-principal Gina Loizou-Bradford.

He added: “This award is very significant for the school.”
