Budding historians are being called upon to research the borough’s rich past in memory of a famous local historian.

David Pam died last year and pupils at primary and secondary schools in Enfield are being urged to delve into the history books of the area.

The David Pam Memorial Bursary aims to encourage children to become keen historians, promoting teamwork within their research, producing intelligent, captivating report writing.

Bursary prizes of £250 for their schools; £10 cheques and book vouchers for winners in all categories and generous supplies of local history books will be presented to the pupils who produce outstanding work.

Cllr Ayfer Orhan, Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, Children’s Services, Protection & Libraries, said: “History is always fascinating – especially to the young who want to know about their localities, how they have changed and developed – and through this, realise that their borough is still changing.

“These competitions will stretch their imaginations; test their skill and provide fun while they learn. Through local studies children will see how the borough has developed and why some old traditions are still cherished.”
