A charity has appealed for a show of Christmas generosity to help the many homeless families in the borough.

According to London communities charity Wonder Foundation, Haringey has some of the highest numbers of homeless families in London, with an estimated 3,000 households in temporary accommodation in 2015, including 5,546 children.

Haringey’s Park Lane Children’s Centre and local homeless charity CARIS are teaming up with the Wonder Foundation to try and make sure these households can still have a happy Christmas. They have made a public appeal for donations.

Marlene D’Aguilar, director of Park Lane, said: “The Wonder Foundation did a great job last year bringing 50 parcels for families who were in need. You ought to have seen the children’s faces when they got their gifts, and the families when they got the packages. We really want to see smiles on these families’ faces again this Christmas.”

The appeal is for gifts of clothes, toiletries, toys and books for children, the latter of which are extremely important, says Ms. D’Aguilar, as many may not have access to learning materials.
